Hair Envy 2.0 with Yvette Kemi

In the past 3 weeks I have experienced various extreme stress emotions, from sleepless nights setting up our art and fashion installation(see previous post) to learning that maintaining websites is not as easy as It looks! ICYMO(In Case You Missed Out) we recently launched a new site for the #OwnYourCulture Instagram movement. It's been exciting to hear your feedback on this great passion project! As most newbie website owners technical glitches are the worst! But we triumphed and are back! This week we feature some major hair envy coutersy of Yvette Kemi she has the most lustrous, curly hair this side of the Sahara. We also got some great tips to reach all those #hairgoals you have! Introducing OwnYourCulture Africa!

April holds a very special place in my heart. On this day 4 years ago, I co-coordinated a fashion show with some of the top fashion houses today. I have written about this severally, how it was the absolute best day of my life- everything was just perfect. It was such a defining time! Fast forward 4 years later, my OwnYourCulture just 9 months into it, was chosen to showcase at the come back event of Blankets&Wine with the Aloe Blacc as the headlining act alongside Africa's top talents. It was an honor to be there and I had such a great time interacting with all of you. Here's some of the pics from our space.

The inspiration behind this was Kenyan culture, the leso with their inspirational words, is such an art piece on its own

The idea behind this was to answer the question 'How do you OwnYourCulture' while looking into the mirror. The art work was by Imor Abagha and final touches by myself. Much love to all those that stopped by for photos! It was fun to create this, I have learnt so much about carpentry and painting, I look forward to what the future holds!

I am proud to introduce to you www.ownyourcultureafrica.com, a lifestyle site dedicated to #OwnYourCulture. The site features inspirational style shoots with some of Africa's best as well as everyday trendsetters who rock #OwnYourCulture.  I created this space to share all things African, well the very best of the fashion and art side, featuring majorly, traditional jewelry. The site contains many different sections, the main page features top Nairobi women in the creative field. The second part- Stylista of the Week features celebrities and everyday trendsetters who have made #OwnYourCulture what it is. The other part is the shop that features both locally sourced pieces and jewelry I designed myself. On the site is included archive photos of the beginning of the #OwnYourCulture movement and some of the creative collaborations we have undertaken. We are also completing our online shop but you can make orders via our OwnYourCulture Instagram.  Below is a peep at what to expect.
