LIVING IN COLOR

One of the most profound sayings I have come across is that we(you and I) have the ability to create and live life in which-soever way we choose in abundance or otherwise. I am discovering and loving that with each new day and choosing to create the very best for me.

Are you living the life that you want? Why not start now? You can, I can, We can!

Life's a party enjoy it!

They say life is what you make of it, what do you choose? I for one know that I choose to have mine as exciting as can be!!The year is off to a great start, I am loving every minute of it! The sun, the excitement of knowing what is to come, life is such a joy ain't it!?
It's summer time in Nairobi, the suns out with a plan! We all need to have every skirt style in our closets! Everyday in this heat deserves a flirty dress/skirt. Flapper skirts(pictured) are very in the moment currently. I got this cute striped one at Mr.Price Nairobi. It's fun and flirty and very fun to dress up/down. This time I opted to layer the vest over as opposed to tucking it in- a girl needs some fun in her outfit!
A close-up of my 'do, I wanted something fierce yet manageable with my own hair
As always, the preferred accessories had to be with some Maasai culture love and another hot  number for the rest  of this season- cat-eyed sunnies. Finished the look with a pair of my trusted chunky-heeled strappy sandals.

Have yourselves a power week!

The Year of the Flatforms

Flatform- flat shoes with platform soles, you've got to love these new fashion words! When this shoe style first came back 3 years ago, I swore myself to never wear them(i take it back now) That's the thing with fashion, sometimes It just grows on you and with that I have made the decision to never say never when it comes to fashion. The shoes are really cute in bright, pastel colors, suitable for this hot weather.
For a cute flirty look, pair your flatforms with your favorite crop top and flowery a-line skirt

VENUS FOR YOU

As a Kenyan naturalista living, breathing, studying off YouTube and online natural hair forums, I am always on the hunt for the latest and BEST natural hair products. Meaning trolling every possible Pinterest board on natural hair, following all sorts of naturalistas  on Instagram, joining every possible natural hair forum available on Facebook- the search is real! I am even on a first name basis with majority of the hair shops around town because of constantly placing orders for new hair products. Thus I am always receptive and open to try new products and suggestions.

The good people from Venus were kind enough to send over a hamper of their new range of products to try out.  The new Beautiful essence products are created from natural ingredients suitable for African hair. These products have been formulated to cater to all types of Afro hair offering better moisturization, softness and a healthy sheen.

Over the 3 years I have been natural, I have grown particularly close to Olive oil, I swear by it for just about everything, from makeup removal, face and body oil, the list goes on and on!

There is the Olive Oil Dual infusion treatment, whereby one can opt to wash off or leave in. I opted to leave the product on. Ah! good old trusted olive oil, my heart was at ease on seeing It as one of the ingredients. First off, It smells really good!Like bubble gum. It reminded me of sweet childhood memories full of strawberry bubble gum, now imagine that on your hair, I love yummy hair scents! For this treatment I opted to let It stay in my hair throughout the day. The treatment melts well into my 4C hair and left It feeling very soft and fluffy, like soft cotton balls. On stretching and playing with my tendrils (every naturalista’s peril) my hair length felt pretty soft from root to tip. Finger combing was such a breeze with this product (I could easily run my fingers through my hair)  My hair felt soft throughout the day and the better part of the next day. With this product, my hair felt moisturized throughout.

As for the Olive oil hair food, It has a light texture, seamlessly  melting on my scalp as I applied It. According to all my natural hair research, the lighter the oil/hair food the better it is. This means that It doesn’t clog the pores on your scalp, thus better absorption of the product.

Next came the dual Moroccan Argan Oil treatment. For this treatment I opted to wash off after letting It sit in my hair for about 45 minutes. This product smells equally yummy! I was so delighted! On rinsing my hair, the product left my curls softer and bouncier than ever. I then proceeded to do twists with the Argan Oil hair food. On undoing the next day, my hair was still soft and very easy to style, It took me less than 10 minutes to style my twist outs- a new record! The Moroccan Argan oil has a light texture and oils my scalp well. This light texture enables better absorption of the oils on my scalp and does not clog the pores.

Venus For You II

Trying new products always requires a specific time period before seeing tangible results. For nearly two weeks now, I have been using the new range Venus for you products. I still can’t get over the yummy scent-I live for yummy scented everything!
So far my hair has fallen in love with the Olive Oil dual hair treatment, especially when I opt to wear the treatment as a leave in. I mean I love you Argan oil treatment and all but we’re just not working out! It’s not you, it’s me :D I do intend to keep using the Argan hair food  and treatment for my type of hair but I prefer washing it out. However the Moroccan Argan oil offers exceptional moisture to the hair. Knowing my type of hair this is a product that will always come in handy. Don’t you just love having options?! With the dual fusion you can choose whether to rinse out the product or let it stay on- if that’s not convenience I don’t know what is!
The dual fusion gives us naturalistas time and choice and becomes even more efficient in planning for washdays. When the sun visits Nairobi again or for that coveted out of town trip, these dual fusion treatments are a total life saver- you can either have it stay on or rinse it out.
In the hamper, I also got myself shampoo which by the way, lathers really well with my 4c hair and on first application! I had other members of my house try it too and it works! As a 4c hair chic(see what I did there) it usually takes up to 3 applications for the shampoo to lather, which more often than not means a lot of product goes to waste. Well problem solved with the Venus hair shampoo!
Also among this new range products, is the Manuka honey and Tea tree dual hair treatment. This product contains moisturizing and scalp healing properties that promises to leave your hair nourished and your scalp dandruff free.In addition to that, there is also the Carrot & egg dual fusion treatment which is infused with Vitamin A,E & B12 that promises excellent hair health.

Given the great success with these products, I am convinced and ready to try the rest of the products.

Maasai Mara

Happy new year!!! Are y'all feeeling the excitement of the new year? 2014 was superb year for me! Took all of the biggest risks of my life in a span of 6 months! And through determined faith, every single thing worked out in large volumes :) My dear readers, there is IMMENSE power in going after what you want, working hard at It and believing!
Having found a new and heightened appreciation for fabulous traditional pieces, it was only right to end the year at the Maasai Mara - the land of rich culture. It was absolutely  breathtaking going back there as an adult, with renewed awe for the rich culture that exists there as well as the magnificent scenery, the naturally beautiful wildlife, the tranquility, even the sky seemed more blue-er! It was simply magnificent! We drove from corner to corner of the Mara, I could even see over to Tanzania! We toured towns around the Mara, It was magnificent! I really enjoyed my travels last year
Here's a snippet of some of the images.

We stayed over at The Mara Sun Lodge(Seasons)
sidenote: It's highly advisable to drive here with 4WD vehicle, especially in the rainy season.
I will definitely going back there in the near future, that was a marvelous way to close the beautiful year that was 2014!

I look forward to even greater achievements this year, life is what you make of It and I am making mine FABULOUS and SUCCESSFUL!
